Rattlesnakes raid ranch house in Dallas, Texas

A local rancher recently reported that approximately 9 rattlesnakes were living in various places around his ranch.

"I knew that I might have some in the outbuildings, like the barn or cellar, but I never expected to find them in the house," said rancher Jason Vine.

Vine said his young children were playing downstairs in the basement of his ranch house. He has a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy. The 5-year-old screamed out to her mother that there were two snakes in the house with rattles on their tails and to come quickly.

Vine said his wife flew down the stairs just in time to see her 8-year-old son trying to approach one of the snakes. She calmly told her eight year old to back up and to come with her. However, he didn't want to listen, he kept approaching the snake. She tried again this time imploring him to listen to her.

"I didn't want him to get struck," said Melissa Vine. "I tried to remain calm, but it was very hard."

The Vine's eight-year-old finally listened to his mother and she was able to evacuate the home.

"I called Jason on his cell phone and told him to come in from the range immediately," Melissa said.

When Vine arrived, he went into the basement with a shovel and killed the two snakes.

A few days later, Melissa was refreshing the sheets in her bedroom and saw a small rattlesnake come out a crack near her air conditioning vent.

She screamed and then got the children out of the house.

This time the Vines contacted Steve Johnson, a professional snake removal technician who came out to the property to assess the situation.

He found that the foundation of the ranch-house had several cracks and the snakes had denned up in the foundation and then crawled through a small crack into the basement.

With his special skills, Johnson captured and removed a few more rattlesnakes from under the foundation.

Vine took his family to a hotel and asked Johnson to search the rest of the ranch's buildings for any additional rattlesnakes.

Johnson worked diligently for approximately two days and found a total of 4 additional snakes on the property.

"This is not uncommon for this area," said Johnson. "When the weather turns cold, rattlers look for low and moist areas, like the Vine's basement, to hole up for the winter. I am just glad that no one was hurt."

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Dallas and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.
